The Wheel of Life is a very simplistic, yet profound, way to discover if your life is out of balance. The purpose of the Wheel of Life is to give an objective score to how areas of your life are going so that you can track it over time. It does not take much time to complete but you can quickly see (if you are honest) where they are out of balance in their lives and where they are placing their focus.
Since the wheel is round, there is no particular order of importance for the different areas in your life. To complete the wheel simply sit quietly and ask yourself how satisfied are you in each area of your life? 1- being very dissatisfied near the center of the wheel, and 10 – being very satisfied near the exterior of the wheel. Once you fill in your wheel you can see if your life looks like a bumpy ride. Will your wheel turn smoothly or is it out of balance? What areas are out of balance? Looking at your wheel, ask yourself the following questions:
1. Are there any surprises for you?
2. How do you feel about your life as you look at your wheel?
3. How do you currently spend time in these areas? How would you like to spend time in these areas?
4. What would make that a score of 10?
5. What would a score of 10 look like?
6. Which of these categories would you most like to improve?
7. How could you make space for these changes in your life?
8. What help and support might you need from others to make changes and be more satisfied with your life?
9. What change should you make first? And what change do you want to make first?
10. If there was one key action you could take that would begin to bring everything into balance, what would it be?
As a Life Coach, I recommend you pick two or three areas that have the lowest scores and work on changing those areas first. This can be accomplished with the help of a good Life Coach to guide you through the challenges. If working on more than one area in your life feels overwhelming, then just pick one. The most important choice here is ACTION! Do at least one thing that will bring your wheel back into better balance.
A Life Coach will help you stay focused and stay on track to bring your life back into balance, reduce stress and live a better life. And who does not want that right? So, fill in your wheel, see where you can improve your life and reach out to get help! Sometimes by doing just a little work, you can get off that bumpy ride and begin smooth sailing through life again!
